As I anxiously opened the email alert from LoobaLee to see what sold, I was pleasantly surprised with what was inside.  I just sold two favorite, affectionately “Worn With Love” outfits to a buyer in New York.

“Now, this is what I’m talking about!”, I exclaimed to my husband.  The transaction was a win-win all the way around — exactly my vision for LoobaLee.com

From the Buyer’s Perspective:

• She got two very fair (if not great) deals on a Hanna Andersson playdress outfit and a Mis Tee V Us outfit.  Both were used, worn by each of my girls, and very well taken care of.
• Plus, LoobaLee automatically combined shipping for her.

From my perspective as the Seller:

• I got the price I wanted for each of the outfits (at the end of the day, my two girls wore each of these fabulous outfits for less than a cost of 1 piece at Target).
• I also got a fair rate on shipping that allows me to package nicely and send priority
• I received my payment immediately
• And… I don’t have any additional fees to pay! (aside from the usual in PayPal)

We both faired well compared to the open market on eBay.  I didn’t have to mark my items up to cover eBay fees, and we’re both protected by LoobaLee’s standard refund policy.

Today  I vowed to start vlogging!  I’m a bit shy about it and far from great at it… but today I found the courage to at least start!

September 1 is always the start of MY New Year — there is little significance around January 1 in our family except that it marks a new calendar year, and its the end of Christmas vacation.   But September 1 is full of change looking at a whole new school year on the horizon.  And with that… new family resolutions for how we plan to be better this year.

In this first vlog, I share 2 of our resolutions for the coming year… and how LoobaLee can help us achieve them.

Hi!  Happy Sunday!

We have a lot of new things in store for you on our blog over the coming weeks.  We’re changing it up to focus even more on helping you Buy Right and Sell Right to dress your kids for less.

One of our new ideas is to ask our Seller’s to share tips on how they buy right and sell right.  The first we pose a question to is one you have probably already noticed is jabemt,   She has posted over 1,500  listings on LoobaLee since April (ALL Gymboree) and she sells multiple items almost daily.  (Click here to shop jabemt’s LoobaLee Store)

Even we were amazed at the listing volume, after all, even myself (“Suzanne”) as founder of the site have only posted ~500 listings..  But, I have been successful there too, having reached over $1,000 in sales on the site over about a 9 month period.

So… we are highly curious and have lots of questions we want to ask jabemt, and it gave us the idea reaching out to our sellers and asking them to share their buying and sellings tips, advice, and strategies.   Now… some of this is considered ‘competitive’ information to Seller’s who run their listings more like a business, but most can offer just basic advice to help us Moms be more savvy when it comes to saving money and staying organized.

Our first question to Jabemt is about just that… what helps her stay organized?   When you are selling kids clothing on-line, you need to keep your virtual inventory of listings in synch with your physical inventory.   This can be especially challenging when you have a lot of it!

LoobaLee:  “How do you keep track of all that inventory?”

jabemt:  “I created a spread sheet on my computer to keep track of everything.  I group it into the [Gymboree] lines and have sub-categories for socks, baby girl, kid girl, boy, and baby boy.   I write down what it is (shirt, pants, PJs), a short description (ie. Pink leopard), the Sku #, date it came out, size, price it is worth, price I paid (tax included), and price I want to get for it. This helps me keep track of everything I have and I do know exactly what I paid for items. I never list an item online unless it has been entered  [on my spreadsheet]“.

LoobaLee:  Great idea!  I started a new similar approach just for my own listings because I realized the importance of knowing two basic things when I go list an item for sale:   The retail price, and how much I actually paid for the item.   As you point out, including taxes in what you paid for an item is also important.      Right now, I don’t enter it into a spreadsheet, but I keep my receipts filed in a box by Brand and by Date.  I jot a little note on my receipt about the retail price and the item description.   This seems to work for me, as I’m not buying in high volumes, but rather just dressing my kids day-in and day-out.

Availability Search

First, our favorite, an Availability Search that drills down in the left menu by size.   Our sizes are broad categories, so that they include all the ways different manufacturers size their items.  For example, with just one click you can bring up everything listed in sizes 24 months, 2, and 2T at one time for either boys or girls!

Find by Keyword

We know habits are hard to break!  And, let’s face it, most marketplaces offer Keyword Search and not much else when it comes to helping potential Buyers find what they want – so they have trained us to expect Keyword results, even though they aren’t accurate.   For example, if you search for Size Kids 4, and you get size 14, 24 months, and so on…

And, since old habits die hard, we’ve added this familiar feature into LoobaLee.  You won’t find the same exact results as our other searches (because it works just like eBay and others),  but it can deliver some colorful results and its a great place to start or a great search to try if you don’t know how or where else to look.
