While the Obama girls are in the spotlight, it's only natural to inquire on what they are wearing. If J.Crew is a favorite of the Obama family that's great. At least it's an American brand and who is more American than the President's children? Being partial to one designer over another is human nature. We all have our favorites don't we? In this media driven world, information is sometimes stirred up to create controversy when there really is none.

Thanks for the comment Kristen! I must put another plug-in here for your store - the Juvie Shop!

The Juvie Shop has already noticed the increased demand for nice clothing in the tween size market and specializes in the 7-14 range exclusively. They can be found on-line at http://www.juvieshop.com.

Michelle - if you're reading this, I'm sure they would have some nice things for the girls. They have many wonderful lines, such as Splendid, Sally Miller, Ella Moss, and more!

I couldn't agree with your comments more! The fact is that they have to wear clothing, and people are interested in them in general, so people are going to be interested in what they wear. These girls are role models to millions of kids around the world, so of course every little thing that they do is closely watched.

J. Crew has stated that they did NOT issue a press release about the outfits; rather, they responded to press inquiries. Nothing wrong with that, as far as I can see. My tween store sent a gift package to the girls a couple of months ago. This was not a marketing move (we didn't issue a press release), but a simple gift. If we do see pictures of the girls wearing items from our store, we might post them on our site, but that would probably be the extent of it.

I have one more comment - a slightly different point, but regarding the embedded CNN video. I disagree with the reporters that there is a 'fine line' between the Obama girls wearing J.Crew (or any other popular brand) and the incident with the Ty Beanie Baby company making Ty Girl replicas of Sasha and Malia. These are, in fact, VERY different. I completely agree with Obama's disapproval of Ty. Had they let this one incident go by without setting precedence, every toy company would soon be making Sasha and Malia dolls. This is very different than wearing a clothing brand -- afterall, the girls have to wear clothes! And, some designers and retailers will inevitably benefit. The only other option is a fully, custom-made wardrobe (which would receive even more criticism and which is clearly not in line with the Obama's family values).
