You know how important it is to protect your child’s skin from harmful sun exposure but don’t forget those peepers.

Experts believe that we get sunglasses80% of our eyes total lifetime exposure to ultraviolet sun rays by age 18.  Since lenses inside young eyes are less capable of filtering high-energy rays, children’s eyes are more susceptible to UV radiation than grown ups.  Without proper eye protection, kids can be exposed to radiation that could potentially lead to problems later in life.

REI sunglassesChoosing glasses that provide 100% protection from harmful UV rays is a must particularly in the summer months when outside play is at its peak.   Be especially cautious in highly reflective situations such as at the beach or by the pool.

Lens color and tint density has no effect on the level of UV protection so have fun choosing the right shades to suit their personalities.   Just be sure the glasses are certified to block 100 percent of the sun’s UV rays by an optician.

Most importantly Sunglassesget your child in on the action when it comes time to purchase.  They are far more likely to grab shades that make them feel good.  Glasses that mimic adult styles are always a hit with kids.  With so many styles, shapes and colors available finding just the right pair (or two) should be a cinch.  The beauty of sunglasses is that they are an inexpensive way to accessorize while serving a purpose.    So enjoy the hunt and protect those precious peepers!
